I was getting ready to post another fitness discussion today, but I just had to pay some attention to the earthquake… and then the tsunami… that hit Japan yesterday.

This morning we watched so many eyewitness accounts of the disaster that hit yesterday, as people had made video recordings with their cameras and phones and sent them in to the news.  Technology is very helpful when it comes to sharing, isn’t it?  It makes us all feel that much closer.  At the same time, we can feel each other’s pain that much easier.

Headlines on CNN.com this morning show footage of the horrible destruction:

Entire Towns Engulfed by Tsunami

Quake Moved Japan Coast 8 feet; Shifted Earth’s Axis  (It shifted the earth’s axis by nearly 4 inches.. that’s amazing)

9,500 Missing in One Town

Videos show ocean water filled with boats, cars, homes, and flames crossing the countryside.  You can see cars moving on roads and bridges being captured by the water, some drivers trying to drive away, others jumping out of cars and running.  I wondered if anyone was able to outrun (or even out-drive) that water.

I want to take this time and break from my normal, daily routine to send thoughts of love to those in Japan who won’t have a normal routine today… or tomorrow… or for a long time.

There’s only one thing I’ll say about fitness here: it will take many, able bodied men and women a long time and lots of effort to help find the survivors and then bring the country back to a sense of normalcy.

My heart goes out to Japan.  I’m so, so sorry.
